The Kissing Fish of Santorini

As you saw in my blog post yesterday, we spent the evening of our second day watching the sun disappear into the sea at a beautiful restaurant near the town of Oia. The next day was spent dipping in and out of the pool at our hotel and basking in the afternoon sun.

Before heading out for the evening to the capital of Santorini, Fira, we decided to take a few photos of all of us together. A quick group photo somehow turned into a full blown photoshoot of each couple and then group shots of the boys and the girls! The lovely thing about travelling with other people is that you can get so many more photos of all of you together like these ones because there’s always someone in the group to take them.

Zoe fixed up my hair for me (I had wet nails and wet hair so it could’ve turned a bit messy if I’d tried to flick my hair over on my own!) before it was my turn to have photos with Marcus. Check out Tanya’s blog and Zoe’s blog for plenty more photos.

After who knows how long spent taking photos, we finally set off and headed towards the capital, Fira. It was the first time we properly ventured to a new place, so these were our first sightings of the capital of Santorini. I must admit, Fira wasn’t quite my cup of tea. It was far too commercial with huge groups of tourists everywhere you looked. Although we were tourists ourselves, I was expecting quiet, cobbled walkways with beautiful shops and stunning views in a traditional Greek setting (which, as it turns out, is exactly what Oia is like, so come back over for the next few blog posts to see our adventures there!).

Nonetheless, Fira is still a beautiful city. Had it not been for the swarms of people at peak season, I’m sure we would have loved it more. The highlight of the evening was stumbling upon a shop called ‘Kissingfish‘ where tiny teeth-less (thank god) fish nibble on your feet to remove dead skin cells, leaving your feet feeling smoother. It was so strange at first putting my feet into a box of water with fish! They immediately swim straight to your feet as soon as you dip a toe in. It tickles a lot at first, but you soon get used to it. We had so much fun in there!

After a quick pitstop for ice-cream and sorbet we made our way back to the hotel. Come back tomorrow to join us for breakfast in our hotel! See you in the morning!
